On a day that would have marked Theodore “Dr. Seuss” Geisel’s 113th birthday, St. Helena students spent the afternoon honoring perhaps the world’s most influential children’s author with a variety of activities. With Seuss having written stories including “Green Eggs and Ham” and creating some of literature’s most recognizable characters including the Cat in the Hat, St. Helena teachers worked very hard to make Thursday afternoon a special occasion for St. Helena as schools across the nation celebrated the Seuss-inspired Read Across America Day. Students undertook many Seuss-inspired activities and had a wonderful time honoring this important writer, and they even enjoyed some famous green eggs and ham.
The school cafeteria now had a brand new drop ceiling thanks to a generous donation from a St. Helena parishioner and her family. The new ceiling was installed this past weekend.
On April 4, 70 students presented an original play called "The Tolerance Team," which was written and directed by Sue Stern, the school counselor. The theme was focusing on empathy, acceptance of others, and cooperation.
Each week, the summer school students went on a different Field Trip to an educational institution in the New York City area, including this trip to the New York Hall of Science.
