Dr. Seuss Day at St. Helena
Here, the three-year-olds and the faculty celebrate Dr. Seus Day at St. Helena's. Held annually on March 2nd, Dr. Seuss Day is a holiday that celebrates the birthday of Theodor Seuss Geisel – otherwise known by the pen name by which he authored children’s books: Dr. Seuss. During the 1990s, the National Education Association advocated for a day to celebrate reading all over the United States. In 1998, it started Read Across America and decided to hold it on the same day as Dr. Seuss’ birthday.

RED NOSE DAY AT ST. HELENA
Our 3-year-old, kindergarten, first, and second-grade students all participated in Red Nose Day today. Red Nose Day funds programs in all 50 United States, and some of the poorest communities in areas like Latin America, Asia, and Africa.
Red Nose Day is run by the non-profit Comic Relief Inc., and aims to end child poverty by raising awareness and money. According to the Red Nose Day website, the money raised in honor of the event supports projects that “ensure kids are safe, healthy, educated, and empowered.”
The website specifies the following in terms of donations:
– $1 can provide 11 meals for hungry children
– $10 can provide essential immunizations for children in need
– $100 can help create a safe home for at-risk children
